Terms of Use

Last updated: April 2026

Welcome to LinkVault. By accessing or using this service you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. Please read them carefully.

1. Service Description

LinkVault is a zero-knowledge encrypted link storage service. All link data is encrypted in your browser using your master password before being sent to the server. We cannot read, access, or recover your stored links.

2. User Responsibilities

You are solely responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your master password. There is no password recovery — if you lose it, your data is permanently inaccessible.
  • Ensuring the links and content you store comply with applicable laws and do not infringe third-party rights.
  • Any activity that occurs under your account.

3. Prohibited Use

You may not use LinkVault to store, share, or distribute links to illegal content, malware, phishing pages, or material that violates the rights of others.

4. Service Availability

We strive for high availability but provide the service "as is" without guarantees of uptime. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, LinkVault shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including loss of data due to forgotten passwords.

6. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

7. Contact

For any questions regarding these terms, please contact us through the support channels listed on the website.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Zero-Knowledge Architecture

LinkVault is designed so that the server never sees your plain-text links, titles, descriptions, notes, or tags. All sensitive data is encrypted client-side in your browser with AES-256-GCM using a key derived from your master password. We have no technical means to decrypt your vault contents.

2. Data We Collect

  • Account data: Your username and email address, stored in plain text for authentication purposes.
  • Encrypted vault data: Ciphertext blobs of your links and tags — unreadable without your master password.
  • Technical logs: Standard server access logs (IP address, timestamps, HTTP method/path) retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To authenticate you and serve your encrypted vault.
  • To provide the short-link and metadata-fetch proxy features (URLs are processed server-side only when you explicitly use these features).
  • To detect and prevent abuse of the service.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to third parties. Data may be disclosed only if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users.

5. Cookie Policy

LinkVault uses minimal cookies strictly necessary for the service to function:

  • Session cookie: A secure, HTTP-only cookie that identifies your authenticated session. It expires when you log out or after a period of inactivity.
  • Theme preference: Stored in localStorage (not a cookie) to remember your chosen color theme. No personal data is involved.

We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.

6. Data Retention

Your account and vault data are retained for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time, which will permanently erase all associated data from our servers.

7. Security

We employ industry-standard security practices including HTTPS, secure cookie flags, and rate limiting. Because of the zero-knowledge design, a server breach would expose only encrypted ciphertext that cannot be decrypted without your password.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction you may have rights to access, correct, or erase your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us through the support channels on the website.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the service interface.
